Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs

Two young quarterbacks will be on display in Kansas City as Deshaun Watson returns from ACL surgery and Patrick Mahomes makes his season debut. Both entering their second year, only one pick separated these two in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Watson was running away with the Rookie of the Year award after taking over in Houston midway through the season opener. After throwing 19 touchdowns in seven games Watson injured his knee in practice and missed the remainder of his rookie season.

Mahomes sat for all but one game as a rookie and was thrust into the starting job this offseason when Alex Smith was traded to Washington. A gunslinger drawing comparisons to Brett Favre, expectations are lofty for Mahomes as he takes over a playoff-caliber team.

With Sammy Watkins joining Tyreek Hill as the Chiefs primary receivers, Mahomes will have plenty of opportunities to air it out. Don’t forget about running back Kareem Hunt returning and hoping to avoid a sophomore slump.

Kansas City won’t feature many rookies after making just six picks, but linemen Breeland Speaks and Derrick Nnadi, along with linebacker Dorian O’Daniel, could start down the road.
