Seattle Seahawks offseason signals a change of focus
There’s been a changing of the guard for the Seattle Seahawks throughout the offseason
For years the Seattle Seahawks have been known for their physical defense backed by Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas, and Michael Bennett. Together along with the rest of the defense they were known as the Legion of Boom and took Seattle to back to back Super Bowl appearances.
Now with nearly every veteran member of the Legion gone the Seahawks have clearly turned a page and shifted their focus to the offense.
From hiring Brian Schottenheimer as their offensive coordinator at the end of the season to signing offensive tackle Duane Brown to a new contract on Saturday, the Seahawks are clearly building around their offense for the first time in years.
This doesn’t just come from two moves made at different points in two seasons, but what’s come in between. After using six of their first eight draft picks on defense last year, they took running back Rashaad Penny in the first round and traded up in the first round for the first time since 2010.

In free agency the Seahawks were 26th in spending and put the majority of their money in two receivers, Ed Dickson and Jaron Brown, who combined to receive more than $6 million guaranteed at signing. Brandon Marshall also enters the fray as a low-risk/high-reward option.
Seattle certainly didn’t go all-in with free agents given their tight salary cap with giving Wilson more than 12% of their cap. Despite losing Jimmy Graham they return Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett to pair with Marshall and Brown.
These won’t be your Seahawks of five years ago, but they still stack up to be a solid team built around their superstar quarterback.
