Los Angeles Chargers lose Jason Verrett to injury
The Los Angeles Chargers catch another bad break
After losing tight end Hunter Henry to an ACL injury the Los Angeles Chargers have lost one of the biggest pieces of their defense.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports Jason Verrett suffered what could be a season-ending injury during conditioning tests. ESPN’s Adam Schefter says the team is concerned Verrett tore his achillies tendon during the first testing of training camp.
The 27-year-old cornerback has had a history of major injuries since coming out of TCU in 2014. A torn left ACL knocked him out during the 2016 season and surgery on that same knee cost him all but one game last year.
Verrett has played just five games in his last two seasons and has played more than six games just once in four seasons.

Casey Hayward and Trevor Williams now project to be the Chargers starting cornerbacks with Verrett on the sidelines once again. Desmond King flashed as a rookie out of Iowa last year and the team returns Craig Mager, a third round pick from 2015.
Former Alabama standout Tony Brown is also in camp as an undrafted free agent. The Tide cornerback had three interceptions in his final two seasons before entering the NFL Draft.
Los Angeles had been a favorite pick of many pundits entering training camp, which feels like a recurring theme entering each season. Hype constantly builds up around the loaded Chargers before injuries ultimately bring them down.
On a positive note, the Chargers are coming off wins in six of their last seven games under first year head coach Anthony Lynn. They landed Florida State defensive back Derwin James in the middle of the first round after a major slide on draft day and may have found their future center with Scott Quessenberry in the fifth round.
