Cleveland Browns exploring WR Dez Bryant in free agency
The Cleveland Browns wide receiving corps could be getting a big upgrade
Jarvis Landry already called the Cleveland Browns wide receiver room the best in the NFL, but a potential free agent acquisition could make that statement undoubtable.
Mary Kay Cabot reported Wednesday morning that Browns general manager John Dorsey says the team has explored signing free agent veteran wide receiver Dez Bryant.
Interest in Bryant comes after Josh Gordon announced he would not come to training camp while he deals with medical issues that he says are both physical and mental.
Gordon returned from a lengthy suspension last year and put up 335 yards in five games for Cleveland.

The Browns return Gordon and the underachieving first round pick Corey Coleman while adding Landry through a trade with Miami early in the offseason. Antonio Calloway was drafted in the fourth round and Damion Ratley was picked up in the sixth. Former Green Bay special teamer Jeff Janis was picked up in free agency by the former Packers executive Dorsey.
Cleveland also brings back Ricardo Lewis and Rashard Higgins from last years roster.
Bryant was cut by Dallas after eight seasons, during which he became the Cowboys all-time receptions leader. A massive contract that will pay Bryant $8 million in dead money this year from the Cowboys.
It’s been a long wait for Bryant in free agency as he waits for the right offer and the right team. Baltimore reportedly offered him a three-year deal worth $21 million, but Bryant turned it down for whatever reason.
San Francisco is another team that has been mentioned as a potential fit.
If the Browns know Gordon will miss significant time adding Bryant would be a major upgrade to a young offense. Tyrod Taylor projects to start at quarterback with first overall pick Baker Mayfield waiting in the wing. Nick Chubb also expects to get big time carries as a rookie running back, while Carlso Hyde and Duke Johnson pick up yards as veteran backs.
Bryant has discussed a desire to play the Cowboys this year, but that won’t be the case if he goes to Cleveland.
