New York Jets waive 2015 second round pick Devin Smith
Another major draft miss by the New York Jets has found his way out the door
The New York Jets have waived 2015 second round wide receiver Devin Smith in the final year of his rookie contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. New York will owe Smith his $632,714 signing bonus, according to Spotrac.
The 2015 NFL Draft class hasn’t been kind to receivers, especially Smith, who went 37th overall and was the seventh receiver taken in the class.
Drafted out of Ohio State, Smith hasn’t played an NFL game since New Years Day of 2017 after suffering a torn ACL. The resulting injury forced him to miss the entire 2017 season after already missing half of his second year with the same injury.
The 26-year-old had made just 14 appearances for New York and three starts before being cut in the weeks leading up to training camp.

Smith isn’t the first second round pick to be jettisoned off the roster this offseason, following a fellow Big Ten star, quarterback Christian Hackenberg. New York had shipped the 51st overall pick to Oakland for a conditional draft pick, but the Raiders released the Penn State product shortly after.
New York enters this year with many questions surrounding their receiving corp, especially with free agent addition Terrelle Pryor. The former Brown saw a dramatic drop-off in production with Washington last year after a 1,000 yard season in Cleveland.
Jermaine Kearse, Robby Anderson, and Quincy Enunwa project to start for New York, while recent draft picks Chad Hansen and ArDarius Stewart look to grab one of the final roster spots available.
