The Buffalo Bills might need some help in their backfield next season

Stemming from the domestic violence accusations against LeSean McCoy the Buffalo Bills appear to be dipping their toes into the free agent market.

ESPN’s Mike Rodak says the team has “shown interest” in former Los Angeles Charger Branden Oliver. Rodak says the interested has been there before the accusations came out against McCoy, and no workout has been scheduled yet.

Oliver played just eight games last year for Los Angeles with 35 carries, 83 yards, and no touchdowns. After a strong rookie season in 2014 with 853 yards from scrimmage, the undrafted free agent’s career has gone downhill. An achillies injury cost him the 2016 season, and the drafting of Melvin Gordon cost him a spot on the depth chart.

More from NFL Free Agency

Buffalo could have plenty of options available to them on the free agent market with veterans DeMarco Murray, Adrian Peterson, Eddie Lacy, and Jamaal Charles still available.

Peterson feels like an unlikely addition for Buffalo with his past suspension for domestic violence considering the nature of the Bills situation.

Buffalo has few options behind McCoy, and adding a running back was likely on their wish list this offseason. Chris Ivory was added in free agency, adding him to a lackluster group with Taiwan Jones, Marcus Murphy, Travaris Cadet, and undrafted free agent Keith Ford.

Next: McCoy situation escalating

McCoy is coming off his fourth 1,000 yard season in his last five years and his fifth in his last seven. Should he face a suspension following the allegations presented by a former girlfriend, the Bills could dip deeper into the running back market.
