The Denver Broncos are not even through mandatory minicamp, but they are already very impressed with rookie WRs Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton…

The Denver Broncos made a surprising move in the 2018 NFL Draft to select not only one but two wide receivers with two of their premium draft picks.

The Broncos added both Courtland Sutton from SMU (second round) and DaeSean Hamilton from Penn State (fourth round) in this year’s draft, in hopes that they could potentially be the team’s top duo in the future.

Not only will these two receivers make an impact in the future, but the Broncos have seen in the early stages of offseason activities that they are capable of making an immediate mark on their new-look offense.

Since rookie minicamp, these two players have stood out and even filled in as the top duo in practice when Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders were off for a day of OTAs.

Head coach Vance Joseph talked about the impression their second rounder Sutton is making thus far:

Sutton’s route running is not his greatest strength, but knowing that, he’s certainly going to be working hard to master his craft before the start of the season.

Like Joseph said, he can win with his body if he doesn’t win with his route initially.

Sutton was arguably the top wide receiver prospect in this past year’s draft with his combination of quick feet, strong hands, catch radius, and size.

Sutton was one of the top players I evaluated at adjusting to poorly thrown balls, and he’s also one of the best in the incoming class at making plays after the catch.

Hamilton is also very good after the catch, but he really stood out as a four-year player at Penn State with his ability to be, as Case Keenum put it, always in the right place.

Hamilton’s prowess as a route runner has earned him high marks from his peers, and especially high marks from his new quarterback:

What Keenum means is that Hamilton approaches his game like a veteran. He’s showing the Broncos’ coaching staff that even as a fourth-round pick in the draft, he deserves some immediate playing time.

The Broncos worked hands-on with Hamilton at the 2018 Senior Bowl where new wide receivers coach Zach Azzani was able to coach him up.

Hamilton is the all-time leading receiver in Penn State history and gives the Broncos a very intriguing option out of the slot in year one.

These two rookies will have a chance to play extensive snaps in the Broncos’ offense this year and provide a spark to a passing attack that ranked among the leagues worst in 2016 and 2017.
