NFL free agent Mychal Kendricks says hold up on print his Browns jersey

After being cut by the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in May Mychal Kendricks has been on a free agency tour to find only his second NFL team in seven years. But despite reports, he’s not settled on where he’ll play long-term.

According to Derrick Gunn of NBC Sports Philadelphia Kendricks texted him that NFL Network’s report he signed with the Browns was “fake news.” Philadelphia released their former second-round pick after years of trade speculation and despite Paul Worrilow tearing his ACL the same day.

Ian Rapoport tweeted Sunday afternoon Kendricks was signing a one-year deal with Cleveland, pairing him with Jamie Collins and Christian Kirksey. That report appears to have, at the very least, jumped the gun with Kendrick’s next home.

More from NFL Free Agency

Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports reported on May 29 Kendricks was set to visit the Browns, Raiders, and Vikings and that a decision was expected within the week. Mychal’s brother Eric plays for the Vikings, making them a potential fit for a reunion.

Oakland also needs a linebacker of Kendricks caliber despite the additions of Tahir Whitehead, Derrick Johnson, and Emmanuel Lamur in free agency. Kendricks would likely battle Lamur for the starting WILL position under Oakland’s reunited head coach Jon Gruden.

Cleveland would likely have Kendricks play WILL and move Kirksey or have Kendricks attempt to start at middle linebacker over Joe Schobert.
