The Dallas Cowboys wide receiver position has imploded in every sense of the word this offseason. First, it was Dez Bryant, and now Terrance Williams.

Bryant’s situation was hot but hardly controversial. The former Pro Bowler had seen his production decline in the passing game over the past two years and the team was no longer willing to pay him the huge contract he’d inked years ago when he was still dominant. It was a business decision. The issue with Williams though? That’s a little more complicated and is getting weirder by the minute.

Things started off with police discovering Williams’ Lamborghini crashed into a light pole not far from the Cowboys practice facility. It was assumed at that point the receiver had crashed and then left the scene, which is a crime. He was arrested for public intoxication and later released on bond. The investigation into the crash though remains ongoing. It seems Williams has an explanation. It involves a former college teammate according to police reports via ESPN.

Williams implicates Kendall Wright as driver of the crashed car

"“Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrance Williams told Frisco police that former Baylor teammate and current Minnesota Vikings receiver Kendall Wright was responsible for the accident involving Williams’ Lamborghini last weekend, according to the police report……According to the arrest report, Williams said he was home when he was informed of the accident and that Wright was on his way to a club.Vikings general manager Rick Spielman addressed the matter in a brief statement on Thursday.“I have spoken directly with Kendall and his agent and both have assured me there is no truth to the matter,” Spielman said.”"

The fact that the Vikings have already reached this conclusion means Wright is quite good at covering his tracks or the more likely scenario that Williams is lying. After all, if it’s discovered he fled the scene after the crash then public intoxication charges will be the least of his worries. Depending on circumstances, Williams could face a felony charge for the incident. If it turns out he lied to cover his own tracks, that would incur obstruction of justice charges as well.

This is why people say honesty is the best policy. As tough as the penalty may be for the initial crime, lying about it will make matters even worse. Then again it may yet be possible Williams is telling the truth. This investigation should be interesting to follow in the coming days and weeks.
