Dez Bryant is a man driven by emotion. That means loyalty is something he values above most things, and the Dallas Cowboys weren’t loyal to him.

At least that’s how he perceives things after being cut by them. One could say the war of words was inevitable. Bryant is never shy about sharing his opinions, and he has several. The man is combative by nature. It’s what made him such a great player but also a huge headache for the organization. They put up with it as long as he played like a star. It seems they were more than ready to cut him loose when that no longer became the case.

Bryant though believes this wasn’t just a decision between owner Jerry Jones and head coach Jason Garrett. The receiver was critical of Garrett’s offense last season, citing its lack of creativity at being able to get the passing game going. He’s not wrong. Once Ezekiel Elliott left the lineup and they couldn’t run as well, Dallas really struggled to throw the ball. Dak Prescott managed just 3,324 yards. Yet to voice that opinion to the media? That seemed to irk a lot of people.

Most of all the supporters of Garrett in the locker room.

Bryant blames ‘Garrett guys’ for the main drive to get him cut

The 29-year old receiver sat down for an interview with Jane Slater of NFL Total Access. Needless to say? He didn’t hold back. Bryant made his thoughts on the matter crystal clear, including the primary reason why he was cut. He claims there was a faction of players in the locker room who pushed for it to happen.

"“I’ll say this right here: I believe that ‘Garrett guys’ [are to blame]. I would say that.“I won’t put no names out, but they know, and I want them to know I know,” Bryant said. “I’ll shoot them a text message and let them know. Little do they know is, you know, they can wear that ‘C’ all they want to, but in that locker room … they know who they communicate with. Everybody knows where the real love is at. I’m not throwing anybody under the bus, but that’s the difference between me and them.”"

The captain reference is interesting. For what it’s worth Prescott, Jason Witten, Sean Lee, Orlando Scandrick, Tyrone Crawford and Dan Bailey were all elected captains in 2017. Rumors persist that Prescott was the one who likely did the most damage to Bryant’s prestige in the building. The two have never really been on the same page. Nothing like what Bryant had with Tony Romo. That, more than anything, is probably what did him in.
