Tennessee Titans sign Malcolm Butler: Free Agency Grade
Tennessee Titans have added to their secondary adding Malcolm Butler
Malcolm Butler will sign a five-year deal worth $61 million with $30 million guaranteed, averaging $12 million per year with the Tennessee Titans. Butler won two Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, but was inexplicably benched during Super Bowl 52 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Butler has gone three consecutive seasons with at least two interceptions with the Patriots, but his stay was clearly too long. New England nearly traded him to the New Orleans Saints last offseason for Brandin Cooks, but that deal fell apart.
New England also signed Stephon Gilmore last year, signaling Butler was falling out of favor with Bill Belichick.
As for the Tennessee Titans, it’s a deal few expected Butler to get after a rough season in New England. Butler will pair up with Logan Ryan, who signed last year, and first round pick Adoree’ Jackson. Pro Football Focus rated Ryan as the 56th corner in the league while Jackson was the 28th best.
The money is astounding for Butler, who admitted he didn’t have a good season last year. Cornerback didn’t feel like a massive need for the Titans, who would have been in the market to draft a corner with the 25th overall pick.
This grade could change if the money is front loaded for Tennessee and they aren’t stuck in a bad deal down the road with Butler if he falls back once again.

Look for the Titans to add another running back to complement Derrick Henry after releasing DeMarco Murray.
