Former Browns first rounder Danny Shelton traded to Patriots
The Cleveland Browns continued heir trading spree, flipping mid-round picks with the New England Patriots in exchange for former 1st rounder Danny Shelton…
The Cleveland Browns have made yet another trade, this time dealing former first round pick Danny Shelton to the New England Patriots in exchange for a swapping of mid-round draft picks.
The trade was first reported by ESPN’s Field Yates.
Cleveland is rebuilding its entire roster, and the defensive line has a couple of interesting young pieces in 2017 draft picks Larry Ogunjobi and Caleb Brantley.
This opens up some options for the Browns in free agency, and some possible replacement nose tackles as well as building with their draft picks from last season.
Vita Vea is also a player in this year’s draft with more athleticism and natural ability than Shelton, coming from the same program out in Washington, that could intrigue the Browns depending on what else they do to fill holes in free agency.

One thing is certain, and it’s that the Browns are saying out with the old, in with the new.
Shelton was a first rounder in 2015, so the Patriots will give him essentially a one-year audition and it’s unlikely they will pick up his fifth year option as a former first rounder.
Since being drafted by the Browns, Shelton has started in 44 of the 46 games he has played, racking up 128 total tackles and 1.5 sacks.
According to Peter Schrager, the Browns are not done dealing yet and are working on more trades, or at least another one. This is an exciting time for the Cleveland fan base, which didn’t experience a victory this past season, but are reaping the rewards of having a ton of offseason assets with an aggressive and very good general manager in John Dorsey.
Cleveland has basically limitless cap space, and limitless draft capital. They are doing a good job before the league year even starts of making necessary adjustments to the roster.
