Los Angeles Rams probably aren’t done making trades

The Los Angeles Rams, who have been wheeling and dealing again this offseason, probably aren’t done making trades. What’s next?

No team has been more active on the trade market prior to the start of the new league year than the Los Angeles Rams.

Les Snead and company have been wheeling and dealing already this offseason, making the following big moves:

  • Acquired CB Marcus Peters for 2018 4th round pick, 2019 2nd round pick
  • Traded DE Robert Quinn and a 2018 6th round pick to Dolphins for 2018 4th round pick and 2018 6th round pick
  • Traded LB Alec Ogletree to Giatns for 2018 4th round pick, 2018 6th round pick

Following their trades in the past couple of offseasons, the Rams have accumulated some nice day three draft capital.

Los Angeles owns a total of nine selections on day three alone, and 11 selections in the up-coming draft in total. With the going rate for some valuable veteran players seemingly quite low right now, I have no doubt that the Rams are not done making trades.

Among those 11 selections are nine picks on day three, including six selections in the sixth round.

There’s no way six sixth round picks are going to make the Rams’ final roster, so they might as well try and parlay some of these picks into other veterans that can help this team win now.

The Rams have a wide open window in the NFC West right now with the Seahawks rebuilding, the Cardinals rebuilding, and the 49ers on the rise. This is the Rams’ opportunity to seize the division for a few years, and one move I would love to see them make is going out and adding Aqib Talib of the Denver Broncos.

Talib has history with Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, and they have already shown a willingness to bring in some members of the Broncos’ secondary from Phillips’ time there.

Talib won’t cost the Rams a ton, maybe one or two of those day three picks, and his contract ($11M base salary in 2018, $8M base salary in 2019) is very affordable given the current market.

Imagine having the highest scoring offense in the NFL, the most dominant defensive lineman in football, and two of the best four or five cornerbacks currently in the game…

I think we’ll see the Rams make some more trades for players that can come in and make an impact right away, and the Talib example is just one of many possibilities where teams looking to create salary cap space could potentially be willing to swing a trade.
