The 2018 NFL Scouting Combine is officially underway.

Which players stood out on day one?

The specialists, offensive linemen, and running backs took the field at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, and we picked five players whose performances stood out above the rest. Let’s take a look…

1. Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State

Saquon Barkley’s performance in this year’s Scouting Combine brought back memories of the incredible performance we saw from Vernon Davis at the 2006 Scouting Combine.

Barkley’s athletic display will go down in NFL history as one of the best all-time at the Combine.

At 6-feet, 233 pounds, Barkley posted 29 bench press reps at 225 pounds, but also added a 41-inch vertical jump, 4.40 second 40-yard dash, and showed out in on-field drills.

I took a deeper look at each individual drill for Barkley here.

It wasn’t surprising to see Barkley perform so well, but it was a little shocking that he exceeded most people’s expectations.

I think Barkley solidified his status as a top five pick, perhaps making himself the favorite for the number two overall pick to the New York Giants.
