Saquon Barkley was one of the most highly anticipated performers at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine, and he has not disappointed with a great workout…

We all knew Penn State running back Saquon Barkley was going to test well at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine, so it would have taken quite a bit for him to exceed expectations.

That’s exactly what he’s done at this point.

From the moment he weighed in, Barkley has been a clear winner from this year’s Scouting Combine.

Let’s dive in to some of his numbers:

Weigh-in

Height: 6-0

Weight: 233 pounds

Hand size: 9 1/2 inches

Reaction: When you draw up what the ideal running back looks like in terms of height and weight, this is about it. Barkley doesn’t carry 233 pounds like many might. He carries it extremely well and is chiseled physically.

This guy looks like the prototype at his position.

Bench Press

Barkley did 29 reps at 225 pounds on the bench press. This just goes to show how hard this kid works in the weight room. Like I said, he carries his 233 pound frame extremely well, and his work in the weight room is a big reason why. Nearly hitting 30 reps on the bench press is a testament to Barkley’s incredible upper body strength and endurance.

Vertical Jump

This is another amazing number for Barkley. At 233 pounds, jumping this high with this body type should be borderline impossible. However, Barkley — like I’ve said — is a very rare type of athlete.

Any vertical over 35 inches to me is really impressive for a running back. If you hit the 40 inch mark or above, you are in rare territory. This is a number that speaks to Barkley’s explosiveness from his lower body.

More from NFL Mocks

This is where everyone anticipated Barkley to shine, and again, he did not disappoint. Barkley’s explosiveness and speed are evident on tape, but when you combine the fact that he’s 6-feet tall, 233 pounds of pure muscle, and can run this fast?

Forget about it.

I had actually clocked Barkley’s second run at a 4.25. I’m not going to preach that as gospel, but I felt like it was a pretty accurate couple of clicks on the stopwatch.

Regardless of his official time, these measurements are effective in confirming what we’ve seen from Barkley on tape — he’s a superstar in the making. This only solidifies what we’ve already known, and it sure is fun to watch.
