NFL Trade: Marcus Peters traded to Los Angeles Rams
Another major NFL trade is coming out of Kansas City early in the offseason
Kansas City cornerback Marcus Peters has been reportedly traded to the Los Angeles Rams, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirmed the report and said the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers were among the other teams interested, and that a package of draft picks will be exchanged.
Rumors of a potential trade arose earlier this week when the Chiefs signed veteran cornerback David Amerson and traded for Kendall Fuller from the Redskins for quarterback Alex Smith.
Los Angeles’ move all but ends pending free agent Trumaine Johnson’s tenure with the team after six seasons. The Rams placed the franchise tag on Johnson last season but never agreed to a contract extension.
Peters quickly emerged as one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL after the Chiefs drafted him 18th overall out of Washington in 2015. In just three seasons he’s earned two trips to the Pro Bowl, All-Pro honors, and AP Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Many saw Peters’ welcome in Kansas City outstayed early after multiple issues with the Chiefs coaching staff. The organization suspended him for one game last season after a fight with a member of the coaching staff and for throwing an official’s flag into the stands following a pass interference call.
The 25-year-old corner has either been fined or suspended without pay four times in just three seasons following his incidents on the field.
In this three seasons with Kansas City Peters intercepted 19 balls, including a league-high eight his rookie season.
