*Franchise tag

  • Mark Sanchez (QB)
  • Cameron Meredith (WR)
  • Kendall Wright (WR)
  • Daniel Brown (TE)
  • Tom Compton (OG)
  • Mitch Unrein (DE)
  • Lamarr Houston (EDGE)
  • Christian Jones (ILB)
  • Kyle Fuller (CB)*
  • Prince Amukamara (CB)
  • Sherrick McManis (CB)
  • Cairo Santos (K)
  • Patrick Scales (LS)

This period comes down to three big fish that the Bears must make sure they keep in navy blue. The biggest is cornerback Kyle Fuller who is coming off a career-best year. It’s unclear if the two sides can reach a long-term agreement. Odds are he’s set up to get the franchise tag. Cameron Meredith proved his value more in being gone than he did actually playing this season so retaining him is obvious. Last but not least is Christian Jones who established himself as a playmaker at inside linebacker.

The remaining names should be considered key depth and special teams additons. Sanchez has proven a valuable mentor to Trubisky. Wright was their best receiver this season. Brown and Compton played well in reserve duty. Houston had four sacks in five games when he returned. Amukamara was reliable in coverage all year. McManis, Santos and Scales are all key third phase retentions.
