New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are in a really interesting position, because Drew Brees is costing them a ton of money against their cap but he’s set to become a free agent in 2018 anyway.

The only solution I see here in New Orleans is to re-sign Brees at a cheaper rate, which he should be open to if he’s still wanting to play.

The Saints have paid Brees a ton of money, and at this point, it would be hard for Brees to just jump into another team’s situation for the short-term, especially when the Saints did so well the past couple of offseasons to rebuild their roster.

I don’t see Brees leaving New Orleans, which means he’ll re-sign on a cheaper deal, but I do see the Saints as interesting players in this year’s crop of players in the draft or bargain hunting in free agency.

The player that I really like for the Saints? Teddy Bridgewater.

The Saints have the personnel for Bridgewater to succeed long-term, and I don’t think he will cost that much to bring on. It could be somewhat similar to the deal Tyrod Taylor signed with Buffalo as a free agent a couple of years ago, before he proved himself and became a household name.

Bridgewater could be brought in as the successor to Brees and the Saints would be able to focus their draft efforts elsewhere.
