Marcus Mariota Goes Out of Way to Apologize to Reporters
By Erik Lambert
The NFL really needs more people like Marcus Mariota. It’s clear the young quarterback of the Tennessee Titans was raised right.
It wasn’t the best Sunday for him last week. Not only did his Titans drop a pivotal game to the Arizona Cardinals, it was a game in which he suffered. Not just in terms of his play but physically as well. Mariota managed just 159 passing yards with two interceptions. His offense scored seven points. Worse still it was revealed after the game that he’d injured his knee and played through the pain the rest of the way.
The 2017 season has been an arduous one for Mariota. Though his team is still in position to make the playoffs, he’s thrown only 10 touchdowns to 14 interceptions. It’s by far the worst statistical season he’s had in his football career. Combined with the lingering pains of a knee injury, one can understand if the guy was a little frustrated when talking to the media after the loss.
Apparently that didn’t sit well with him after it happened, so he went out of his way to make amends.
NFL hasn’t changed the trademark Mariota humility
This shouldn’t come as a surprise. Mariota comes from a loving family where he was raised by a strong mother. He’s always been a humble, quiet person. Even minor outbursts would be considered a shock to him. So it’s understandable he’d worry he might’ve offended some people. Even though these are the same people hearing coaching rants or players trash talking all the time.
It’s firm reminder that the NFL can and should hitch their wagon to more players like him. Not only is he talented, but he’s also the type of character they want representing their brand. A true down-to-earth kid focused on family and football. It may sound cheesy but it’s true.
