Seattle Seahawks: Malik McDowell Arrested For Disorderly Conduct
By Erik Lambert
The Seattle Seahawks have high expectations for young defensive lineman Malik McDowell, but thus far they’ve been disappointed over his usefulness.
At first it wasn’t his fault. He was dealing with some serious medical conditions that at one point might’ve threatened his entire career. In the end he was able to avoid that but it was the first sign that McDowell might end up not going down the past Seattle hopes. Things have only since gotten worse both for him and the team.
According to TMZ Sports, McDowell was arrested this weekend down in Atlanta, Georgia outside a night club. It seems he was in a dispute with the owners over the fact that he felt they owed him money and weren’t paying. When he refused to stop causing a scene, the police were brought in.
"“McDowell was shouting at the head of security about $600 he believed the club owed him … even though he was repeatedly told by staff and his own friend they didn’t have the cash he demanded. He was eventually allowed back in … but the arresting officer says he was kicked out again … still shouting about the money, and refusing to leave without it. The cop says she was told McDowell poured out a couple bottles of liquor inside and got booted. During a profanity-laced tirade, the officer says she detained McDowell with the help of her partner. They tried getting him in the back of their patrol car when he allegedly said … “F*** both of ya’ll hoe ass n*****, p**** ass cops, I bet I get out, I got more money than ya’ll, ya’ll ain’t got enough money for me, p**** ass crackers, broke ass n*****.” The arresting officer says she had to almost tase and pepper spray McDowell when he refused to comply with her orders, but adds she ultimately didn’t use either.”"
McDowell clearly still has lots of maturing to do
Truth be told this incident is little more than a black eye for the Seahawks at present. McDowell is expected to be a big part of their future but he hasn’t become a focal point of their defense this season. Whether Pete Carroll will be able to get him under control is the subplot to watch. While he’s a grown man entitled to have his fun, hanging around night clubs has always proven a dangerous way to live for NFL players. The sooner he learns that, the better off he’ll be.
