If the season ended today, who would have the top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft? Who would just miss out on the postseason? Here’s where we are after week 9…

The 2017 NFL season has been pretty fantastic from a drama standpoint, and we have seen the fruits of some long rebuilding processes take place before our very eyes.

For the majority of the league, there’s still half a season left yet to play, so much of this has more than enough time to change completely, but there are a lot of really interesting notes at the midway point of the season that, if they hold, would be fascinating stories.

If the 2017 season were to end today, here are some intriguing NFL Draft and NFL playoff scenarios, starting with…

Cleveland Browns

If the season ended today…

…the Cleveland Browns would hold the first and seventh overall selections in the 2017 NFL Draft.

The Browns being penciled in for the top overall pick should come as no surprise, even after their spending splurge this offseason on the offensive line and what appeared on paper to be a very solid draft class.

This rebuild is going to take a lot of time, and a lot of draft investment.

Still, the Browns have the ammunition to make this rebuilding process move along quicker than others if they hit on high draft selections, and if they can somehow find a way after this year to get the quarterback they want in the fold.

Apparently, that quarterback is A.J. McCarron of the Cincinnati Bengals, which I honestly don’t get.

At any rate, the Browns are primed for a couple of high draft picks in 2018 with the pick from Houston, and all the injuries the Texans have suffered this year. It could end up where the Browns have two selections in the top 3-5 picks.
