Philadelphia Eagles acquire RB Jay Ajayi from Miami
Jay Ajayi is the latest young star on the move at the trade deadline
Miami Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi has been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick in 2018.
Ajayi was the 149th overall pick in 2015 out of Boise State and established himself as a bell-cow running back. In his second year with Miami Ajayi rushed for 1,200 yards and established himself as one of the best young running backs in the NFL.
Philadelphia entered week eight with the best record in the NFL at 7-1 and the fourth-best rushing offense in the NFL. A running back room led by LeGarrette Blount, Wendell Smallwood, Corey Clement, and Kenjon Barner has been productive enough for Doug Pederson. None of those four is a long-term solution for Philadelphia, but Ajayi now gives them a 24-year-old starter who can keep the offense balanced.
General manager Howie Roseman is going all in on the Eagles not just getting a playoff bye or making the NFC championship game, but winning the franchise’s first Super Bowl.
As for Miami, the white flag is being waived with the team down to their third-string quarterback Matt Moore and a record of 4-3. Head coach Adam Gase is certainly sitting on the hot seat, but given the circumstances surrounding the quarterback position, his job may be saved.
