A few months ago there were whispers of a divide between the Cleveland Browns coaching staff and the front office over team direction.

Such things are not difficult to imagine, especially when a team has won only once in the past 24 tries. There is no doubt a growing desperation to get a victory and steady the ship. That’s a big reason why head coach Hue Jackson continues to play musical chairs at the quarterback position. It might also be there that said divide is starting to reach a boiling point.

In the past two season the Browns have developed a growing reputation for passing on future star quarterbacks. They willingly traded down in 2016, handing Carson Wentz to the Philadelphia Eagles. Back in April they did it again, moving down in a deal with the Houston Texans who scooped up Rookie of the Year favorite Deshaun Watson. Both were rumored to be coveted by Jackson.

Also during that span there were hints of interest in New England Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo. He was recently dealt to the San Francisco 49ers, and it was this moment that may have set off the powder keg according to insider Benjamin Allbright.

Indeed the novelty of Sashi Brown is wearing off fast

The baseball enthusiast is being outed as totally overmatched by the NFL business. To date the only thing he’s become known for is hoarding lots and lots of draft picks. Problem is that mode of operation is not proven towards building a winner in this league. Pro football only has seven rounds to get good players, not the 40 of Major League Baseball. That is why holding onto top picks can be so important.

It’s easy to understand why the coaches are angry. Most of the major picks and signings the front office have made to this point aren’t working out. Kizer looks like a work in progress. They’ve allowed productive players like Terrelle Pryor and Joe Haden slip away to free agency just to save money they already had more than enough of.

With each passing day it feels like the Browns front office is trying to find a cheap way to build a winner, not understanding that to keep ones’ job in the NFL, one must win as quickly as possible. Especially under such a fickle owner like Jimmy Haslam. Unfortunately given the way the season is going, almost everybody could get fired over it.
