Hurricane Harvey altering upcoming football schedules in Houston
Hurricane Harvey will force several upcoming NFL and college games out of town
Hurricane Harvey has brought unparallel devastation across the state of Texas, most notably the city of Houston. Thousands have been evacuated from the area, leaving hundreds of millions of dollars worth of destruction behind.
The storm is also causing the NFL and NCAA to reevaluate their upcoming schedules, which includes the Texans regular season home opener.
Originally scheduled to play the Cowboys in Houston this week, the Texans have hunkered down in Dallas and are likely to play their final preseason game on the road. They’re currently training at the Star Complex in Dallas while their city is several feet under water.

Houston was scheduled to host their season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 10 but that game could be rescheduled by the league. Once the storm dissipates at the end of the week and the city begins to rebuild, the league will evaluate whether the teams are better off playing somewhere other than NRG Stadium.
The Cowboys have a home game during week one, making Jerry World an unlikely landing spot for the game. Ultimately the Jaguars may get another home game if the league decides Houston can’t host the season opener.
In college football, LSU and BYU are scheduled to start their seasons Saturday evening in Houston, but the game is likely to be moved north to Nashville. Nissan Stadium, home of the Titans, is reported to be a potential backup location.
University of Houston football starts with two road games and is scheduled to return on Sept. 16 versus Rice.
