Miami Dolphins rookie linebacker Raekwon McMillan left Thursday night’s game with an apparent leg injury. The latest on the situation…

The Miami Dolphins opened their preseason against the Atlanta Falcons, and are currently monitoring a situation involving rookie linebacker Raekwon McMillan, who was taken to the locker room with an apparent leg injury.

McMillan was a second round pick this year out of Ohio State. He was the 54th overall selection in the draft, and despite just being a rookie, he had come into Dolphins camp and seized a starting middle linebacker position.

It’s the right knee for McMillan, and the injury happened on punt coverage. He had made amazing strides in recent days at Dolphins camp, and had yet to even take his first defensive snap when the injury happened.

While at Ohio State, McMillan was a Butkus award finalist as one of the nation’s top linebackers. He finished his final season with the Buckeyes with 102 tackles and second-team All-American honors.

The Dolphins in the wake of McMillan’s injury will shuffle some things around. This offseason, they brought in Lawrence Timmons from the Pittsburgh Steelers, one of the more underrated moves of the offseason.

They’ve also been pleased with what they’ve seen from Kiko Alonso, one of the players who came over from the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade in 2016. Alonso led the Dolphins with 69 tackles this past season.

Hopefully the injury to McMillan isn’t going to be long-term. He has the chance to be one of the better defensive picks from this past year’s deep draft class, and someone that was expected to be a key piece of the Dolphins’ AFC East run this season.

As of the time of this writing, his return to the game against Atlanta was questionable.
