Josh Gordon hasn’t played in the NFL since 2014, but his return could be imminent

Regarded as one of the biggest wastes of talent in recent NFL history, fans were led to believe wide receiver Josh Gordon would never touch the field again.

Friday afternoon, the 26-year-old hinted that his indefinite suspension for multiple violations of the NFL substance abuse policy could be lifted.

Gordon posted a tweet and changed his profile picture Friday afternoon, which has many people around the league wondering if news of his return is coming.

In May the league denied Gordon’s application for reinstatement, meaning he would have to wait until the fall before officially reapplying to enter the league.

Cleveland still holds Gordon’s playing rights, and general manager Sashi Brown has expressed interest in having the prolific wide receiver back.

The Browns selected Gordon in the second-round of the 2012 NFL Supplementary Draft, which allows eligible players to enter the league after being ruled ineligible for the April draft.

If Gordon is able to play for the Browns this year it could serve as a tremendous replacement to Terrelle Pryor, who departed for Washington in free agency.

Veteran Kenny Britt and first-round pick Corey Coleman are projected to start at wide receiver for Cleveland this upcoming season. Rashard Higgins, Ricardo Louis, and Mario Alford will battle for the backup roles, none of whom are as prolific as a healthy, clean Gordon.

In limited playing time with the Browns, Gordon showed gaudy with 14 touchdowns and 2,700 yards in two seasons.
