The Philadelphia Eagles continued their roster purge Wednesday with a trade

Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Allen Barbre was originally thought to have been cut Wednesday morning, but new developments look to have him being traded.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports that Barbre has been traded to the Denver Broncos in exchange for a conditional seventh-round 2019 draft pick.

The conditions on the pick now linked to Barbre will likely depend on the number of games started, which could benefit Philadelphia. Barbre started 28 games over the past two years in Philadelphia at both guard and tackle, though was mostly settled into the left guard role.

Denver has been desperate for offensive line help, and Barbre’s versatility and experience will benefit the Broncos greatly. Turning 33-years-old last month, Barbre still has plenty in the tank to help the Broncos’ young quarterbacks up front.

Barbre could battle Donald Stephenson at right tackle, or replace Max Garcia or Ronald Leary at guard. His starting experience at both positions will be invaluable once injuries and fatigue hit this upcoming season.

Philadelphia also moved on from 2014 first-round pick Marcus Smith Wednesday, avoiding a $500,000 roster bonus. Smith never started a game in Philadelphia and recorded a mere dozen tackles in his three years coming off the bench.

Now with Smith and Barbre’s money off the books the Eagles have the ability to acquire a veteran cornerback, a position defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz acknowledged needed help. Bears corner Kyle Fuller and free agent Darrelle Revis have been a rumored match.

Philadelphia will start training camp with rookies and veterans on Thursday as they begin the second year with embattled head coach Doug Pederson.
