Losing Kenneth Dixon for the season delivers a major blow to the Baltimore Ravens’ offense

Baltimore enters training camp down another weapon for quarterback Joe Flacco, this time seeing young running back Kenneth Dixon tear the meniscus in his knee.

Having to undergo a full repair of the meniscus, Dixon moves into company with Dennis Pitta as Ravens skilled players out for the year, and Michael Campanaro could join them as he starts camp on the PUP list.

Dixon, who the Ravens originally anticipated missing four games due to a suspension, leaves the Ravens running back room with Danny Woodhead, Lorenzo Taliferro, Terrance West, and Buck Allen leading the charge.

Baltimore will certainly add some depth to a weak running back group, something they were in the market for prior to Dixon going under the knife.

Here are some free agent running backs the Ravens could add heading into training camp and the regular season.

Bobby Rainey

Reports out of Baltimore suggest the Ravens were already in communication with Rainey, who’s fallen off the face of the NFL world. After a breakout 2013 season in Tampa Bay Rainey has found little success in his journeyman career.

More from NFL Free Agency

Rainey provides the Ravens a short-yardage back who can push for first downs and take goal line carries off the bench. He’s not going to dazzle fans going forward but he’s a punishing back the Ravens could use alongside Woodhead and West.

Rashad Jennings

Fresh off his “Dancing with the Stars” championship Rashad Jennings is ready to return to football full time. He’s flashed the ability to be productive as both a runner and receiver, collecting nearly 800 yards from scrimmage last season with the Giants.

Jennings may be the most complete back available in free agency as training camps begin across the country, and with a shortage of backs in Baltimore, the timing could be perfect to strike a deal.

DeAngelo Williams

At 34-years-old DeAngelo Williams’ best days are likely behind him. Unwilling to join the Cowboys, Jaguars, or Browns Williams is a perfect complementary back in Baltimore to Woodhead and West.

Just two seasons ago Williams led the NFL in rushing touchdowns as a member of the Steelers, splitting time with Le’Veon Bell and providing short-yardage carries. The Ravens don’t need 200 carries out of Williams, but will gladly take 130-150 if they can get it.
