NFL: Cowboys linebacker Damien Wilson arrested
One of the great franchises in NFL history has a major offseason problem off the football field
Dallas Cowboys linebacker Damien Wilson was arrested on the Fourth of July and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Frisco Police Department.
Wilson was arrested during a Fourth of July celebration at Toyota Stadium known as “Freedom Fest,” and booked with the two felony charges.
The 24-year-old linebacker was released on $10,000 bond, and police say the case remains under investigation.
“We are aware of the situation and we are in the process of gathering information,” a Cowboys spokesperson said in a statement. “We will not have a comment at this time.”
Last season Wilson started five games and made 23 tackles for Dallas in just his second season coming out of Minnesota.

Wilson’s arrest comes one week after the NFL suspended defensive lineman David Irving for violating the league substance abuse policy.
Meanwhile, the NFL is investigating cornerback Nolan Carroll following a DWI and running back Ezekiel Elliott following assault claims.
The league has handed out eight separate suspensions to members of the Cowboys front seven since 2015, and Wilson’s arrest could lead to a ninth.
Last week we highlighted how Wilson is expected to receive a larger role in the Cowboys defense in the midst of injuries and suspensions. If Wilson is not available to start the season the Cowboys are left with Kyle Wilber, a fourth-round pick from 2012 that hasn’t produced.
Dallas has one of the earliest training camps in the NFL, starting on July 22nd in California.
