NFL Free Agency: Five landing spots for Jeremy Maclin
Carolina Panthers
After reaching the Super Bowl after the 2015 season, Carolina missed the playoffs and limped to a subpar 6-10 finish in 2016. The Panthers struggled mightily after losing Josh Norman to the Redskins. The defense had a ton of problems, including injury issues with linebacker Luke Kuechly. Kelvin Benjamin underwhelmed in his return from a torn ACL. Greg Olsen had himself a year, but the running game wasn’t as good as it needed to be under Jonathan Stewart.
However, change is on the way. The Panthers spent their first round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft on Stanford standout Christian McCaffrey. The multi-talented halfback will be quite the receiver for Cam Newton as well as a great running back if he manages to live up to his hype train. Julius Peppers and Matt Kalil are nice additions too, especially since the latter will be tasked with keeping Newton upright.

An underwhelming Kelvin Benjamin can’t be Newton’s primary option out wide, especially since Devin Funchess isn’t cut out to be a starter alongside Benjamin. Maclin would make a nice fit in an offense that needs him. Ted Ginn Jr. now sports gold and black for the Saints, leaving a vacancy Maclin could fill and then some. He and Benjamin would make a nice tandem for a team looking to return to the playoffs. It could be an excellent fit, and it could only be a phone call away.
