The writing was on the wall for former first round pick Calvin Pryor after the Jets went heavy at safety in the 2017 NFL Draft…

The New York Jets have traded safety Calvin Pryor to the Cleveland Browns for LB Demario Davis.  This comes as a small surprise due to the fact that the Jets had used their first two picks at the safety position.  Jamal Adams is an absolute defensive stud and was considered a top prospect in this year’s draft.

To pair with Adams, the Jets took Marcus Maye from Florida with their second pick.  Consequently for Pryor, the Jets prioritized the back-end of the defense at his position, making him the odd man out.  As of Tuesday, Pryor was working with the third team defense, as reported by Rich Cimini.

Turning 25 in July, Pryor still has plenty of time to right the ship in the NFL.  He has a slightly underwhelming career statline with 191 total tackles, 2 Ints, 0.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.  Talent paired with desire should allow Pryor to grow in a new location.

Cleveland drafted Jabrill Peppers to help the secondary, but it seems they will move him around the field.  Pryor will have to win the job from Ibraheim Campbell in camp, but it should be attainable.  The Pryor trade comes on the back of the extension of Christian Kirksley, a very important part of the commitment to youth for the Browns.

The Browns are quietly building a very solid defense to pair with their under the radar offense.  I fully expect the Browns to have a very successful season on defense with Garrett, Shelton, Ogbah, Collins, Kinsley, Haden, Peppers, and Pryor.
