NFL: Browns rookie Howard Wilson fractures knee cap
Howard Wilson’s NFL career begins with a devastating knee injury
Every NFL player’s journey has its twists and turns, but Howard Wilson begins his professional career with a rollercoaster fall.
Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson confirmed the fourth round pick suffered a serious leg injury in practice on Saturday. The former Houston cornerback suffered the injury one day after signing his rookie contract.
The injury is the second major setback in Wilson’s career since his days with the Cougars. A torn ACL cost Wilson all but three games in his sophomore season.
During his three seasons at Houston Wilson had nine interceptions and 15 pass deflections.
Wilson was the lone cornerback drafted by the Browns in last month’s NFL Draft. Undrafted free agents Channing Stribling, JD Harmon, and Alvin Hill joined the team, and Wilson’s injury could mean a roster spot in training camp.
Joe Haden and Jamar Taylor return as the starters for the Browns, while former Seahawks Tyvis Powell and Marcus Burley fill out the depth chart.
Danny Trevathan suffered a similar injury with Denver and returned in due time to receive a major contract with Chicago.

It’s a long road ahead for the young Wilson, but a return to football activities is possible. The injury likely erases Wilson’s rookie season should the Browns place him on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
