2017 NFL Draft: Top options for every top 10 team
Malik Hooker, S from Ohio State:
Consensus picks of most NFL Mock Drafts have the Chargers selecting a safety. For some it’s Jamal Adams and for others it’s Malik Hooker. Truly, I think Adams will be gone by this point so the Chargers have to make a decision.
That decision is if they want to improve their secondary or if they’re ready to fix their offense. Whatever they do, I think it’s the right decision but Malik Hooker could change the face of the defense with his former teammate, Joey Bosa.
Corey Davis, WR from Western Michigan:
One of the most forgotten players in this draft is Corey Davis. While he may not be my top ranked receiver, he’s still a very talented player. His upside is through the roof and what he can do after the catch is rare. He reminds me of Antonio Brown and with an offense that lacks playmakers, especially at receiver, they can’t go wrong with Davis.
I wouldn’t consider Davis sure-handed because he’s had 16 drops over the last three seasons but he’s still been the most productive receiver in college football history. Phillip Rivers, Melvin Gordon, Antonio Gates and Corey Davis would generate match-up nightmares across the AFC West. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chargers made a splash with their first round pick, after all, they’re in Los Angeles now.
If they wanted to keep it boring, they would have just stayed in San Diego…
Garett Bolles, OT from Utah:
Folks, the athletic ability of Garett Bolles has him in the top-10 discussion. Teams like football players and they like athletes, that’s what Bolles is. Last year, the Chargers had considered Ronnie Stanley with the fourth overall pick but instead they went with Joey Bosa.
While some might not consider losing D.J. Fluker a loss, I do believe it’s a loss. Protecting Phillip Rivers and generating a consistent run game has to be a goal for the Chargers.
