Desmond King, CB, Iowa: 2017 NFL Draft scouting report and analysis
Key Stats
Desmond King played in 53 career games at Iowa, starting since he was a true freshman (very difficult to do with Kirk Ferentz teams) and playing in 94 percent of the defensive snaps over that time (per NFL.com). Those alone are pretty astounding figures for a college defensive player, but King also participated in 46 percent of Iowa’s special teams snaps, primarily serving as a kick and punt returner.
Over the course of his Iowa career, King racked up 263 total tackles, 174 unassisted, 9.5 tackles for loss, 14 interceptions (three for touchdowns), and a whopping 47 pass deflections.
King also added 1,458 yards on kickoff returns (26.0 average per return) and 504 punt return yards (11.2 average per return).
In 2015, he was a consensus All-American in addition to being named the Jim Thorpe award recipient as the nation’s top defensive back. He was a first-team All-Big Ten selection this past season as a senior despite what many considered to be a ‘down’ year.
