Prospect Overview

As far as Iowa Hawkeyes history goes, Desmond King will go down as one of the best to ever step foot on campus. The Detroit, MI native wasn’t even offered by in-state powerhouse schools Michigan or Michigan State.

A regrettable decision, to be certain.

King made sure opponents in the Big Ten — including Michigan State and Michigan — felt the impact of their incorrect decisions not to make him even an offer coming out of high school. He put on a show not only as a defensive back, but as a star special teams player and team leader.

After his monster junior season in 2015, King opted to return to school for his senior year to fulfill a promise he made to his mother and to honor the memory of a family member that had been tragically killed in 2012.

King was the Jim Thorpe award winner after his huge junior season, and is the first Thorpe award winner in the history of the honor to return the following season.
