Tony Romo deciding to leave football concerns more than just the Dallas Cowboys with the NFL Draft quick approaching

Anyone who has watched football in recent years knows Tony Romo was no longer a franchise quarterback who could lead a team on a sustained playoff run. Despite that sentiment, multiple teams were connected to Romo this offseason via trade or free agency.

Now with Romo retired the league must adjust to the fact that there’s one less veteran quarterback available in a weak market.

Two teams connected closely with Romo were the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans, both having serious concerns at quarterback. Denver saw Romo as an upgrade over Trevor Sieman and a bridge to first-round pick Paxton Lynch.

More from NFL Draft

Houston needed Romo to be a bandage between a weak draft class in 2017 and a top-heavy group in 2018.

Denver appears content with starting next season with the same two quarterbacks as last year, the order being unknown at this time.

Houston now appears to be set on drafting a quarterback in the first round this year with the option to start Tom Savage while their rookie develops on the side.

Pencil the Texans in on Deshaun Watson or Patrick Mahomes with the 25th overall pick after trading Brock Osweiler to Cleveland for cap relief.
