Darrelle Revis an Option for the Dallas Cowboys?
By Brady Lunt
Reports of a confrontation involving Jets’ cornerback Darrelle Revis led to his release from New York. Recent news, however, states charges have now been dismissed, opening the door for a return to the NFL.
A February altercation involving then Jets’ cornerback Darrelle Revis put the NFL on high-alert. Media ran wild with the story when a video of the victims was released.
The video showed both men unconscious, reportedly at the hands of Revis. Details were unclear, but rumors swirling eventually led to his release from the Jets and a loss of just over $9 million.
Fast forward to March 15 and reports are suggesting that all charges against Revis have now been dismissed, as reported by ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
What does this mean for Revis? It opens the door to return to the NFL if any teams are interested.
It was evident his release revolved around the allegations against him, but they weren’t the only reasons. Revis has experienced a steady decline in play that saw him move to three different teams in three years (Jets, Patriots, Buccaneers, back to Jets). Revis isn’t the player he once was and likely never will be again, but is he capable of making an impact?

The Cowboys have been experiencing their fair share of issues in the secondary this off-season. Centering on the loss of Barry Church and J.J. Wilcox, along with the potential loss of Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr. It would seem there should be least some interest in bringing the former All-Pro to Dallas. Right?
At this point, I wouldn’t expect it. Dallas signed Nolan Carroll as a veteran presence and still could bring back either Claiborne or Carr. Unless Revis came at an extremely reasonable contract, the interest in Dallas would likely be very minimal. His steady decline in play doesn’t bring a lot of promise and will likely prevent second-year player Anthony Brown from continuing to develop.

While his veteran presence could be beneficial, it wouldn’t be worth the contract his name will likely command. If I’m Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys, I’m looking forward to a draft class that’s incredibly deep at the cornerback position.
