With a few days of free agency frenzy behind us, we take a look at the state of the Dallas Cowboys. We analyze the current signings, areas needing improvement and potential fits, and an updated mock draft.

The Dallas Cowboys entered the off-season full of disappointment, after a difficult loss to the Green Bay Packers on a last-second field goal. Despite being the top-seed in the NFC (13-3), they failed to win a playoff game. To add insult to injury, the Cowboys had 18 players entering the market as unrestricted free agents. Many of these were key players on an over-performing defense that already had little to lose.

The Cowboys have a lot of work cut out for them, and as Day One of free agency came and went, many fans were more than frustrated. However, we can’t continue to pretend we didn’t see this coming. The Cowboys new philosophy revolves around NOT overspending in free agency, instead focusing on quality, low-budget players, and talented draft classes. We have no reason to question the direction Will McClay and the Jones family is taking this franchise.

The story of the off-season will continue to be Tony Romo until news of his trade or release is announced. While a trade seems very unlikely, his release appears to be imminent at this point. It’s only a matter of time before he has moved on from the only team he’s ever known (and the only quarterback we’ve known for the last decade).

With a few days not behind us, we take a look at some key departures, key additions, potential additions, and an updated mock draft.
