Philadelphia Eagles Sign Veteran Wide Receiver Torrey Smith
Philadelphia finally has a veteran wide receiver for Carson Wentz, and it comes in the form of Torrey Smith
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman enters the NFL offseason needing to add two or three wide receivers through free agency or the NFL Draft. Reports are that Roseman has filled at least one of those spots by signing Torrey Smith.
Both Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport announced hours before the free agency market officially opened that the Eagles and 28-year-old wide receiver Torrey Smith agreed to a three-year deal. Philadelphia was reportedly pushing to trade for Smith at last years trade deadline, but could not get a deal done with the 49ers.
Smith’s contract will be worth approximately $15 million over those three years.
Last season Philadelphia played their season with Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor, and Dorial Green-Beckham as their starting wide receivers. Each carries their own mix of issues, with the ability to make big plays being a consistent one.
Philadelphia had zero wide receivers with more than 10 receptions average more than 12 yards per catch. Smith enters the fray in Philly with a career average of 17 yards per catch.

Much of the news at wide receiver in Philadelphia centered around Saints star Brandin Cooks, whom the Eagles reportedly entered trade discussions regarding. With the price of a high draft pick and a defensive starter appearing to be too rich for Philadelphia Roseman gets a reliable veteran to help build the team.
Earlier reports also had the Eagles signing former Rams receiver Kenny Britt, but it appears the Cleveland Browns are now expected to ink a deal with the wideout.
Expect the Eagles to continue looking for depth in free agency, and draft a wide receiver in the first three rounds when the NFL Draft arrives in Philadelphia next month.
