NFL Free Agency: Darrelle Revis Released by the New York Jets
NFL free agency just got a bit more interesting with Darrelle Revis now available
Days after turning himself in following an alleged assault in Pittsburgh Darrelle Revis is a free agent.
The New York Jets announced on Tuesday evening they were releasing the veteran cornerback, thus clearing a significant amount of money against their salary cap.
New York was over the salary cap before moving Revis, which opens up nearly $11 million for their cap this offseason.
Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan praised Revis for his contributions to the Jets after two stints with the organization.
"“When you’re dealing with a player of Darrelle’s caliber, these decisions are extremely hard to make. We all have a great deal of respect for Darrelle and the significance of his time with the Jets cannot be overstated. He provided an example of how a pro should approach his craft and established his place in NFL history as one of the best at his position.”"
Revis had the worst year of his Hall of Fame career, which has stretched over 10 seasons between the Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and New England Patriots.

Many have pondered whether Revis will retire after his body appeared to catch up to him on the field. Others believe he could move to safety and play several more seasons in the NFL.
Ultimately nothing will happen in free agency regarding Revis until there is more clarity regarding the incident in Pittsburgh that resulted in two men being knocked out, allegedly by Revis.
The cornerback is out of jail on a non-monetary bond after turning himself in shortly following the incident. Revis claims he was the victim of stalking and harassment after he claims the two men followed him while recording on their phones.
