Washington Redskins

Prediction: QB Kirk Cousins will receive a long-term deal

Hear me out first.

Despite the team running into mediocrity at 8-7-1, Cousins had a good season overall. The soon-to-be-29 year old QB tossed for 4,917 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Also, Cousins played the entire 2016 season with a heavy franchise tag worth $19.9 million dollars. He has also publicly stated that he will play the 2017 season with another tag. This one will be approximately $24 million.

While it is a possibility that Washington could franchise tag Cousins, I think the long-term deal will occur. How?

Three teams within the top ten of overall salary cap face quarterback questions this offseason: Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, and Chicago Bears. One of those three teams will likely toss a nice shiny offer sheet to Cousins, which will be matched by Washington. The Redskins will have a nice pile of cash to play with this offseason (estimated $64 million) and will lock down their quarterback of the future.
