By far one of the biggest stories over the past weeks is why the Los Angeles Rams continue to keep #1 overall pick Jared Goff on the bench.

Head coach Jeff Fisher has remained steadfast in that decision. Not only does he trust veteran Case Keenum to run the offense, he doesn’t yet believe the rookie is ready. This is nothing new with Fisher. He’s had a history of keeping highly drafted quarterbacks on the sideline. He did that with Steve McNair back in the 1990s with the Houston Oilers. It’s hard to argue with the decision too. McNair went on to have great success for the franchise, getting them to a Super Bowl and winning MVP.

Nevertheless, the calls for Goff have only gotten louder as the Rams continue to lose games after such a promising start. Keenum isn’t impressing anybody. What’s the point keeping the rookie sidelined if they’re losing anyway? Adam Schefter of ESPN has kept apprised of the situation and believes the team is almost ready to unveil their prized draft pick.

"“Los Angeles Rams rookie quarterback Jared Goff could start his first NFL game as early as next Sunday at home against the Miami Dolphins, league sources told ESPN.If Case Keenum struggles today against the New York Jets, the Rams will consider going to Goff as early as next week, which would create an ideal circumstance.”"

It’s hard to say what prompted the sudden change of mind. Perhaps the coaching staff was pressured by ownership to speed up the process. More likely it was the simple struggles of Keenum. Over the past four games he’s thrown for over 1,000 yards but has just five touchdowns with eight interceptions. It’s a big reason why they’ve lost four-straight. Loyalty only goes so far in the NFL when a player isn’t performing up to standards.

It may not end up being much better with Jared Goff under center, but it’s clear the other players on the roster are anxious to get that era started. The Los Angeles Rams gave up a lot in order to get him back in April. People want to see what all the fuss is about and whether he’s worth the price of admission. Even if that means going through the learning process.
