Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips takes scary hit on the sideline
Play was stopped for several minutes in Denver after 69-year-old Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips was run into on the sideline. Medical personnel quickly attended to him after taking the vicious blind-side hit.
Players from both the Broncos and Chargers took a knee as Phillips was loaded onto a stretcher and carted off the sideline.
Phillips could be seen moving both his hands and pointing his index finger in the air.

Linebackers Coach Reggie Herring took over defensive play calling duties in place of Phillips.
Phillips joined the Broncos coaching staff last year in the Broncos quest to Super Bowl 50. He previously served as the head coach in Dallas, Buffalo, and Denver. He also served as an interim head coach in Atlanta, Houston, New Orleans. Previously he was the defensive coordinator in Philadelphia under Buddy Ryan and in San Diego under Marty Schottenheimer.
