The Denver Broncos made sure Brock Osweiler remembered where he came from on Monday Night Football, in front of the entire football world…

It was an ugly return to Denver for former Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler, who completed 22 of 41 passes for just 131 yards in a loss.

Osweiler wasn’t hit often, but he was playing not to lose and it wound up costing him big time.

Quick drops and in accurate throws paved the way for an embarrassing performance from the Houston Texans offense as the Broncos essentially coasted to a 27-9 victory on Monday night. And there was this:

Apparently it’s not going to be immortalized like the ‘Butt Fumble’, but I think it’s just as funny. There’s no one even around Osweiler there, and I have no clue how it’s even possible to let go of a ball like that, especially in an NFL game that doesn’t involve rain, snow, ice…anything, really.

The Broncos pounded the ball on the ground all night, rushing for 190 yards and getting one of the best performances in awhile from C.J. Anderson, who led the way with 107 yards on 16 carries. Rookie Devontae Booker, a fourth rounder out of Utah, carried the ball a career-high 17 times for 83 yards.

Both Anderson and Booker had a touchdown, and Booker’s was the first of his NFL career.

Demaryius Thomas scored on a beautiful pass in the red zone by Trevor Siemian, and the Denver defense did its job the rest of the way, affecting passing lanes and beating Osweiler without really any sacks in the game.

The Broncos were credited with one sack on the night, but it was merely for scorekeeping as Osweiler fell on a fumble and was touched down behind the line of scrimmage.

Not adding many sacks to their season total isn’t going to offend anyone on the Broncos, because the pressure was there but Osweiler got rid of the ball so quickly it didn’t matter.

The Broncos were in tight coverage all night, absolutely shutting down Texans receivers as they have done to opposing teams all season long, even in defeat.

Aqib Talib led the charge in the secondary, and is playing like a defensive MVP this year.

No, seriously.

More from NFL Mocks

Talib’s reputation precedes him, and after another strange offseason incident, not many people are going to be casting their ballot his direction for defensive player of the year, but they should. He has been absolutely outstanding, and was once again facing his former teammate Osweiler and star receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

The turning point of this game came as the Texans were driving the ball down the field, into Broncos territory, when Alfred Blue took the ball and was absolutely crushed by both Darian Stewart (possibly the player of the game) and T.J. Ward. He fumbled the ball right into the waiting arms of Broncos linebacker Todd Davis, and the Broncos immediately took the ball down the field on one of their better offensive possessions of the night for a touchdown.

This was a huge game for the Broncos, coming off of two losses in five days to the Falcons and Chargers, who ironically played one of the best games of week seven against each other.

Denver’s two losses sent a wave of panic across Broncos Country, but all is well that ends in a win, and the Broncos dominated the line of scrimmage against Houston who is obviously without J.J. Watt.

There are still things to work on for the reigning champions, but this was a great bit of momentum the right direction against a player they really wanted to beat.
