Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams is quietly having the best season of his NFL career, and broke out on Thursday Night Football…

The Green Bay Packers have been in search of a third option in the passing game seemingly since Jermichael Finley’s career was tragically cut short due to injury. After making big investments in Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb, Davante Adams had been expected to be ‘the guy’ that could fill the void.

Early on, it looked like Adams — who was one of the youngest players in the league in his rookie season (2014) — would be the option that could open things up for Nelson and Cobb.

It has been a much slower development than it seemed like two seasons ago.

So far in 2016, however, Adams is having the best season of his young NFL career. It feels like he’s been in the league for a really long time, but he’s just 23 years old and through six games, he’s got five touchdown grabs (career-high) on 28 catches. He’s averaging over 12 yards per reception, which is also on pace for a career best.

He’s on pace for around 60 catches, which would also beat his career-high of 50 last season.

Adams has become a more valuable and reliable target for Aaron Rodgers this season, and that is evidenced by Thursday night’s performance against the Chicago Bears in which he caught 13 passes for 132 yards and two scores.

It was a breakout performance in a way for Adams, who had already proven himself as a weapon this season with three touchdown catches going into the TNF matchup.

Prior to this season, three touchdowns was the most he had in a year.

This is big news for the Packers, but even bigger news for Davante Adams, who has struggled through injury and inconsistency. He’s had problems with drops, but he’s progressing extremely well this season and is becoming a target the Packers can depend on.

Now, the Packers were playing a Bears secondary that has been awful and has been hit hard by the injury bug, but that doesn’t change the fact that he is really coming on this season.
