Eagles Reunite Doug Pederson with Former Chiefs Quarterback
The Philadelphia Eagles have their quarterback of the future with Carson Wentz, but that didn’t stop them from signing yet another quarterback
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has brought four quarterbacks into the organization since the conclusion of last season: Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel, Carson Wentz, and McLeod Bethel-Thompson.
Sam Bradford was traded to the Minnesota Vikings to recoup some of the draft picks lost to acquire Carson Wentz. With Bradford gone, Wentz has been left the starter with Chase Daniel being one of the most expensive back-ups in the NFL.
Roseman and head coach Doug Pederson acknowledged the team would bring in a third quarterback, either to the active roster or practice squad.
After weighing their options, the Eagles have brought in former Kansas City Chief Aaron Murray.
Doug Pederson was the offensive coordinator in Kansas City when Murray was drafted in the fifth round out of Georgia. Murray has not played any NFL snaps, but he knows Doug Pederson’s offense and can continue his development.
A four year starter at Georgia, Murray threw for over 13,000 yards and 121 touchdowns. Those 121 touchdowns are the most in SEC history.
He also rushed for nearly 400 yards, and reached the end zone with his legs 16 times.
Next: Replacements for Keenan Allen
Murray will be the only non-rookie on the Eagles practice squad. Having that veteran voice in the group will certainly help develop young players with little experience of playing or even life in the NFL.
