The Indianapolis Colts lost in the season opener against the Detroit Lions, but quarterback Andrew Luck looked phenomenal coming back from injury…

Even though he wasn’t out all of last season, it feels like we are coming off of a year without Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck. Luck did miss a lot of games last season after battling through injuries early on in the year, and he came back with a chip on his shoulder Sunday.

Luck looked phenomenal as the Colts’ defense bled out what could have been a victory in their home opener to the Detroit Lions. He threw for 385 yards and four touchdowns, adding 21 rushing yards on three carries while taking just two sacks.

He was absolutely on fire throwing the ball downfield as well…

Already in his fifth NFL season, Luck has developed into one of the premiere players in the league at the premiere position. He’s so smart, which is his greatest asset, but he combines his football intelligence with an incredible feel for the game, natural athleticism, and phenomenal passing skills.

I don’t need to tell you that, because you should already know. Still, it’s worth gushing over because Luck is such a rare talent.

Luck was especially impressive in this game running the no-huddle offense and keeping the pace moving. With a healthy Dwayne Allen, the dynamic of the Colts’ passing game changes. They have speedy receivers in T.Y. Hilton and Phillip Dorsett along with a matchup nightmare in Donte Moncrief and Allen.

That kind of versatility in the passing game allows the Colts to move the ball in a variety of ways and they like to attack deep downfield.

Luck’s next test will be one of his most daunting this season as the Colts get set to take on the Denver Broncos. There were a lot of clean pockets for Luck to work with against Detroit, and playing against Denver will unquestionably be a different story.

The game will be played in Denver, where Luck and the Colts lost a season opener two years ago before they came into the same stadium and spoiled the Broncos’ playoff hopes. He has fared well against the Broncos in his career, boasting a 3-1 record including the postseason.
