Joey Bosa’s holdout with San Diego Chargers is over
The bizarre and inexplicable holdout of San Diego Chargers first round pick Joey Bosa has finally ended, as the rookie agreed to a four-year deal…
Whatever issues the San Diego Chargers and Joey Bosa had have apparently ended as the third overall pick in the draft signed a four-year, $25.8 million contract, ending his holdout.
The San Diego Chargers have had a long history with draft picks holding out due to the ownership, but Bosa coming out of this with a fully guaranteed contract is pretty incredible. He (and his family) had made the Chargers look pretty horrible in the public eye, and perhaps rightfully so, but he comes away somewhat of a winner in the end.

The Chargers desperately need at least the potential that they’re getting in Bosa, even if he is far behind in learning the playbook and acclimating to his new teammates and surroundings. This was one of the most bizarre holdouts in the era of the new CBA because draft picks are basically given slotted contracts, and the only discrepancy could be over guaranteed money.
It apparently took nearly four months for the Bosa camp to convince San Diego to give him a fully guaranteed contract, and it worked.
Kudos to the agent of Joey Bosa, but what a distraction this has been for an organization that really didn’t need it.
The Chargers are the clear fourth-best team in the AFC West, and Bosa was one of the bright spots on this team heading into the dog days of the offseason. As the contract holdout continued on, there was much less optimism about his willingness to play for this team in the short term and certainly the long term.
With him now signed, the Chargers are going to have to give him a crash course and perhaps get him a few reps in the final week of the preseason before easing him in to regular season action.
