The retirement of Peyton Manning and departure of Brock Osweiler in free agency originally left the club scratching their heads, but it seems they have found the heir to Peyton.

A name few people recognized going into the Denver Broncos training camp this year is now their number one quarterback. Despite trading for veteran Mark Sanchez and drafting Paxton Lynch in the first round, the Broncos will start Trevor Siemian this season.

Siemian was drafted by the Broncos with the 250th overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Northwestern. The 23-year-old has seen no game action since being drafted, appearing in just one game with no passing attempts.

Through three preseason games, Trevor Siemian is 27-43 with 285 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

Veteran Mark Sanchez was acquired in an offseason trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a conditional seventh round draft pick. If Sanchez is not on the roster, Philadelphia will not receive that draft pick in 2017.

Rookie Paxton Lynch will also be watching from the sidelines, despite being the Broncos first round pick out of Memphis. Lynch is 27-46 in his first preseason with two touchdowns and a pick. The rookie still has a lot of growing-pains to workout, but one would assume he is the long-term option for Gary Kubiak.

Siemian is not expected to play in the Broncos final preseason game, which could mean an extended look at Paxton Lynch.

The Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos will open the NFL season with a Super Bowl rematch on Thursday night football against the Panthers on September 8.
