Eric Berry Signing Franchise Tag a Welcome Sight in Kansas City
The Chiefs will get their superstar safety back just in time for the season
With less than two weeks away from the first kick-off of the NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs are glad to finally have Eric Berry back in-house.
After Berry was selected to receive the Chiefs franchise tag, the two sides failed to find a deal heading into training camp. Berry held-out of camp while waiting for a new deal, but he has reportedly opted to sign his franchise tag.
Head Coach Andy Reid expects his franchise safety to be back at practice Monday for the first time this preseason. Reid said Berry should be ready for the first game of the season, even if he misses preseason games.
Eric Berry, who received the Comeback Player of the Year award after defeating cancer, will receive a franchise tender worth $10.806 million for the 2016 season.
Strong-safety was turning into a weak position on the Kansas City Chiefs depth chart without Eric Berry. The team drafted Eric Murray, and had Daniel Sorenson on the roster, but both pale in comparison to the Pro Bowler Berry.
